Despite its hoighty-toighty French name, Bar Avignon is a decidely laid back, Northwest bar with dark wood interior, a long, beautiful, blue bar and friendly wait staff. Regulars swear by its Avignon Lemon Drop cocktail, a traditional lemon drop martini sweetened with house-made lavender-infused honey, and you won't find a nicer wine list on SE Division. The fancy honey is also for sale so you can whip up your own concotions at home.
Avignon's happy hour boasts $1.50 oysters that taste if they were freshly shucked right on the Oregon Coast. Cozy inside booths and ample patio seating make this a nice spot for a classy, romantic cocktail hour all year long.
Where Bar Avignon fails, however, is its dinner. A pricey and decidely un-inspired menu will have you wondering why you just dropped a wad of cash on something you could have made at home. If you're hungry, do yourself a favor and stick to the happy hour menu which is tasty enough and won't leave a gaping hole in your wallet.
Certainly wine bar sans pretensions - sommelier occupied, but with a more down to earth attitude. Fantastic oysters, and decent cocktails to match.
Spendy, rather disappointing full menu. Stick to the happy hour.
