Owned by bartenders from favorite hipster locales such as Bye & Bye, Aalto Lounge, and Someday Lounge, Dig A Pony pretty much had a line around the block from the night it opened. The gorgeous interior is all re-purposed wood, with an old-west saloon feel to it. The gigantic round bar gives everyone a nice view of the myriad of liquors and the handsome folks slinging the drinks.
Dig A Pony has excellent cocktails made to perfection; try the Patsy, a sweet and sour gin concoction. There is ample outdoor/smoking seating if you don't mind the methodone clinic crowd wandering up and down Morrison Avenue or traffic noise. Good luck finding any seat at all in the evenings; this place is wall-to-wall hipsters after 7 p.m. DJs come in nightly to spin vintage 45s on a bar-side record player.
After two tries at sampling the menu (mac and cheese and the fried chicken sandwich) this reviewer has learned Dig A Pony is a place to drink, be seen and ogle the attractive clientele and bartenders, but not anywhere you'd want to eat unless you're hard-up.
Beautiful, gigantic bar with a saloon feel. Tasty drinks and good-looking wait staff. DJs spin old 45 records most nights.
Very crowded with every hip-kid in Portland in the evenings, so much so that you can't hardly order a drink. Don't bother with the food.
