Laurelhurst Market sounds like an upscale butcher shop, and it is. But it also has a restaurant with the best steaks in town and some truly creative cocktails. If you fancy yourself a trendsetter, you must try the Smoke Signals cocktail (recently written up in Bon Appetit) which features ice that has been melted over hickory and re-frozen to add a smokey flavor to this whiskey-based drink.
House cocktails are on the pricey side ($8-10) but worth it. They also have half a dozen beers on tap and full wine list, $6-12 for a glass, $21-97 for a bottle.
Outdoor seating includes a side patio and tables along the front of the restaurant. The dining room and bar are swanky-industrial but not so shi-shi you feel uncomfortable in jeans. If you are a vegan or vegetarian, this is not the place for you. If you are a meat-loving carnivore, holy crap: these are some of the finest steaks in town cut from local cows. Have a Portlandia moment while the waiter tells you in minute detail where your beef comes from and what it ate.
Cutting edge cocktails with things like 'smoked ice', outdoor seating and the best damn steaks in town make this upscale restaurant/bar/meat market a must-see attraction.
On the spendy side; bring a date with a big checkbook. Vegetarian food options are few and far between.
